- History of Tigh Na Cloich Tigh Na Cloich sits on a former Historic Lookout Point of an old Roman encampment and means ‘House upon the Sentinel Stone’. Proudly situated overlooking the banks of the River Tummel in Pitlochry and is the very essence of Pitlochry History. Tigh Na Cloich occupies the site of a large rock that was removed by blasting when the original house was built in 1879. The rock was known as the ‘Sentinel Stone’ and gave its name to Pitlochry. The name of this essentially Victorian town Pitlochry is a corruption of the Gaelic: Pit-Cloich- Aire and means ‘Place by the sentinel stone’ and is believed to be associated with the pics 2000 years ago. Today guests can enjoy first-class hospitality, within this charming hidden gem.
